Katrina Cares for Our Kids!

I’m not running to sit quietly. I’m running to advocate for positive, meaningful change — and to ensure every voice is heard.

Our kids are our future.

I want to help shape the schools that shape them.

I believe in strong parent partnerships, school transparency, and fiscal responsibility.

All are key to building an empowering environment for Selah students.

We Deserve Better Schools

Let’s be real—being on the school board isn’t glamorous.

It’s not about a title. It doesn’t come with perks. It doesn’t pay much.

It does come with late nights, hard decisions, and feedback from every direction—sometimes when I welcome it, sometimes when I’m just trying to grab milk at Wray’s and a parent recognizes me.

It means being open to hearing the good, the bad, and the brutally honest… even when life is messy, when my hair’s in a bun, and I’ve got a million other things going on.

And I’m still signing up for it.

Because this isn’t about me—it’s about our kids. It’s about making sure there’s someone at the table who will listen, really listen. Someone who isn’t afraid to ask questions, challenge the status quo, and look at the full picture before making a decision.

I'm running because our students deserve better, and our teachers deserve support. I believe that when we bring every voice to the table—not just the loudest ones—we can create real change.

This is my why: our kids, their futures, and a school system that reflects the strength of our whole community.

Thanks for being here. Let’s do this together.

We need MORE moms and dads!

Parental choice means parents are not just included, but empowered. They should have every opportunity — and encouragement — to understand and engage with what their students are being taught.

Washington’s Parents’ Bill of Rights has sparked discussion about how to balance parental involvement with professional responsibility in schools. I believe in an approach that honors parents as partners, respects student privacy, and equips educators to teach effectively—ensuring that decisions are made with students’ best interests at heart.

Regardless of state policy, we can make our schools more transparent and collaborative right here in our district. That means clear communication, open doors for feedback, and committees where parents can have a direct voice in shaping school priorities.

Let’s be honest—we all recognize there are challenges in our schools. Test scores are moving in the wrong direction, and we can’t ignore that.

If we want things to improve, we have to be willing to look at what’s not working and listen to the people who are living it every day.

Students and teachers should have a voice in the conversation about what needs to change — without fear of retaliation.

Accountability is important, and it should apply to everyone. When we work together with transparency and mutual respect, we can create a stronger path forward for our schools.

I’m not running to sit quietly. I’m running to advocate for positive, meaningful change — and to ensure every voice is heard.

Let’s Be Honest

My Priorities

Focused Leadership

Public education can be clouded by politics and noise. Our students deserve leadership that stays focused on what matters most—clear priorities, thoughtful decisions, and steady direction.

Parent Involvement

Stronger schools grow from strong partnerships. Expanding parent participation in committees, activities, and board feedback will help guide our direction.

Academic Excellence

We need a challenging, engaging, and hands-on curriculum that builds critical thinking, communication skills, and prepares students for every pathway—vocational training, two-year programs, or four-year colleges.

Safety

A safe environment is essential for learning. Our schools must protect students from violence, illegal activity, and bullying.

Support for Educators

Our teachers and staff work hard, often under tough conditions—attendance issues, limited resources, behavioral challenges, cell phone distractions, and students behind grade level. They deserve the support and tools to succeed.

Fiscal Responsibility

Prudent use of taxpayer funds matters. Applying business expertise and data-driven decision-making will ensure resources are used wisely.

Arts, Athletics, and Activities

Students thrive when they feel connected. Programs in music, theater, sports, and clubs give them belonging, purpose, and pride.

I’m Not Afraid of Hard Things

It’s not about big promises or polished speeches — it’s about real talk. I’m running for the Selah School Board because I believe in showing up. Not just when it’s convenient, not just when it’s easy, but every single time our kids and community need a voice at the table.

I’ve been a mom in this district. I’ve been a volunteer. I’ve been the person standing on the sidelines, wondering who’s really paying attention and listening. Now, I’m ready to step into the role where I am the one looking, listening — and acting.

This campaign isn’t about politics. It’s about:

Making sure every student feels safe, heard, and seen

Supporting our teachers and staff without burning them out

Holding space for tough conversations and working for solutions

I know this role comes with challenges — but I’m not afraid of hard things. I’m doing this because I care deeply, and I want to build a stronger future for all Selah families.

I’d love to hear from you: What’s your top priority for our schools right now?
